At noon today, we go live with the first of my twelve-part webinar series. This has been a long time coming, with a lot of talking and a few false starts along the way. Making a commitment by setting a date to do something raises the pressure substantially because it creates a deadline. For a long time, I comforted myself with the thought that I was still preparing, promising that I would host these webinars one day when I was ready. I have over-consulted about this project, and every time, I ended up being asked, “When will you start?” I would then seek out one more person to sell my vision to, and they, too, would end up asking when I would start.

Maybe it was analysis paralysis or just being trapped in the comfort zone. I started feeling like those politicians who travel majuu to benchmark. Yet deep down, very few of them are keen to return home and actually implement what they learnt. I have done my fair share of benchmarking about paid online initiatives like this webinar, yet I felt I needed to find out more before going live. I have often challenged you folks here about just doing it, but it is much easier said than done. Now I am doing it. The stretching may be uncomfortable, but it is worth it.

I have watched several of my fellow coaches with signature programs on social media pour out their wisdom and help humanity. What I’ve discovered now is that presentation is the easier part. Building the infrastructure and the preparation is much harder than putting together the content on a slide deck. This has been a serious growth spurt for me. I have had to learn how to manoeuvre the Zoom webinar platform, registration and payment links, and transfer content onto slides that actually enhance the topic. Not to mention building those CRMs that communicate with everyone.

I’m glad for a few friends who have offered to share their expertise with me, whose contributions have brought us this far. I’m indebted to them. I have even had to befriend AI to help me clean up my ideas. Now I understand why folks give their AI assistants names. It’s like a real relationship where someone even predicts your next move and advises you better than a human could. It has felt that way at times. It’s convenient and unsettling at the same time. But hakuna otherwise. It’s the world we live in, and we can use artificial intelligence to enhance our work. I hope it doesn’t replace us altogether.   

Today at midday, I start this new chapter on the journey of significance. I’m proud to put this idea into action finally. I sincerely hope that it will benefit many folks at midlife, especially those going through midlife transitions on this continent. Our circumstances are unique, so we have to do life in language that we understand. This webinar series is an attempt in that direction, understanding halftime and midlife transitions in Africanese.
